Permanent Agriculture (Permaculture)

A holistic and ethical framework for creating resilient human habitats and communities created by by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970s, permaculture aims to design systems that mimic natural ecosystems, integrating land, water, plants, and animals to provide food, energy, and shelter in a way that benefits all life and promotes self-sufficiency.

Permaculture

Permaculture is at the heart of how we live and grow on our farm. More than a method of gardening, it is a way of thinking and designing that seeks to create systems which are resilient, abundant, and in harmony with nature. By observing the patterns of the forest and the wisdom of traditional practices, permaculture teaches us to work with the land rather than against it. It combines food growing, water management, animal care, energy use, and community living into one holistic approach where every element supports the others. For us, this means creating gardens that feed people while nourishing the soil, welcoming animals that enrich biodiversity and bring joy, and designing spaces where people can reconnect with nature and themselves. Permaculture is about regeneration — not only of ecosystems, but also of culture, skills, and relationships. It empowers us to live more self-sufficiently, more joyfully, and more responsibly, while cultivating a farm that can thrive for generations to come.
